Lincoln Public Schools, the only public school district in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. It is the second largest of 596 school districts in Nebraska, surpassed only by the Omaha Public Schools. LPS educates more than 32,100 students at 54 schools.
The current superintendent is E. Susan Gourley, Ph.D, who took over from Phil Schoo retire early in the 2004-05 school year.
The high rate of graduation from school in Lincoln Public Schools has more than 80 percent for the 2008-09 school year - with an increase in graduation rates for all major ethnic minority groups as well - while the dropout rate fell to its lowest in school district history, according to figures released this months.
"These figures are worthy of celebration and confirmation," said LPS Superintendent Susan Gourley. "This is the result of hard work, strong commitment and track record of our teachers, staff and students."
LPS graduation rate for the 2008-09 school year was 80.3 percent, a significant increase compared with 77.9 percent the previous year - and the second highest in the history of LPS. The dropout rate in 2008-09 was 10.6 percent, the lowest ever in the LPS.
