38th Annual Georgia Apple Festival will be held today (October 10, 2009). The festival is celebrated every year in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia. This year, the event promises many new crafts as well as favorites from past festivals.
The Georgia Apple Festival will be celebrated in Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds. This year, over 300 vendors with various handmade, hand-crafted items will be featured by the festival and some on-site demonstrations will take place throughout the day. Additionally, the event will host an antique car show at the Civic Center today.
From Elljiay is home to the Georgia Apple Festival is always a large selection of apple orchards to visit, including Hillcrest orchards, Red Apple Barn and many others, all within a few miles from Ellijay. Ellijay is known as the heart of apple country of Georgia for many reasons, including the place in view of the spectacular colors in the mountains of northern Georgia.
Ellijay offers over 12 varieties of apples, with popular categories such as Fuji. Apples are nutritious and there are so many fun ways to eat an apple if your oven into a dumpling, braised in apple juice or dried is always delicious!
Make a trip and visit the downtown area near Ellijay square surrounded by historic buildings and shops with antiques, crafts and gifts. If you are not full of food vendors at the festival, but there are a variety of restaurants in the Plaza. There are other opportunities for many historical places to visit, including the Farm Trail Cheiftain and Kell.
The parade will start on the second Saturday, 17 October and starts at 10 a.m.
