Shawne Merriman, linebacker San Diego Chargers, was arrested this morning after he allegedly strangled and moderate Tila Tequila at his home in Poway, CA. If Shawn wanted a shot at love with Tila, this was not the way to go.
Tequila, 27, signed the order to arrest a citizen, battery and false imprisonment with Merriman said Lt. Sheriff San Diego County, Gary Steadman.
Deputies responded about 3:45 Merriman's house in Poway, north of San Diego after a woman called to say she was strangled by the player and knocks him down when he tried to leave, the spokesman for the Department of Sheriff said that in January Caldwell told a news conference.
Merriman's lawyer, Todd Macaluso, denies history of Tequila and said he is convinced that Merriman will not be charged by the District Attorney's Office.
"There was absolutely no wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Merriman," Macaluso told The Associated Press by telephone. "He essentially did what was appropriate under the circumstances to try to protect the safety of Ms. Tequila. There were many witnesses to support his version of events appeared in her home.
Merriman, 25, was captured and recorded in the Central Prison around 8:30 pm He was released shortly after 11 Tequila was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
Caldwell said the deputies determined he had been drinking Tequila. Asked if Merriman tried to keep drunk driving Tequila, Macaluso said: "We do not want to comment on their behavior. The conclusion is that it did everything possible to ensure their safety. It is hoped that present and tells the truth."
